MARILYN MOSBY
Marilyn Mosby, the former State's Attorney in Baltimore, was recently convicted of mortgage fraud for allegedly making a false statement on her mortgage application for a vacation home in Florida.
Scheduled for sentencing on May 23, 2024, Mosby faces up to 40 years in prison. Serving as State's Attorney from 2015 to 2023, she gained national attention for charging six officers in the death of Freddie Gray, a Black man who died from spinal cord injuries sustained in police custody.
Mosby asserted that Gray's arrest was unlawful, as the officers lacked probable cause. Her attorneys argue that the charges against her are motivated by personal, political, and racial animus. In a letter to President Biden, over 50 prominent attorneys, including Ben Crump, and 15 civil rights organizations, such as the NAACP, have called for Mosby's pardon, describing her conviction as political persecution of a progressive prosecutor defending communities of color.
