On June 30, 2024, D'Vontaye Mitchell, a 43-year-old Black man, tragically died after being restrained by security guards at a hotel, where he was accused of causing a disturbance. The hotel has since terminated the employment of the guards involved, and the incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
